Button Trinket Box

Kim Towne transformed a plain paper mache box into a work of art using paint, machine embroidery designs, grosgrain ribbon and covered buttons. Use our Button~Ups Fabric Button Cover Machine to make flat back buttons or remove the metal shanks from traditional covered buttons kits (rubber cup or teeth kits found in notions aisle of sewing stores.)

Materials Needed:

Step 1
  • ·      Remove the stickers from the box and paint inside and outside w/ acrylic paint.
  • ·      Allow to complete dry overnight.

Step 2
  • ·      Embroider six 1” “Little Charms” embroidery designs on grosgrain ribbon (back ribbon w/ Heat n Sta stabilizer)
  • ·      Embroider a 1.5” “Frames & Borders” embroidery design on pink ribbon.
  • ·      Cut out designs and make into flat back covered buttons. If you are not using our Button~Ups Fabric Button Cover Machine then remove the sew-on shank before making the button so the back is somewhat flat. The beauty of our button systems is you have many different types of button backs available (such as flat back buttons) perfect for gluing onto another surface.

Step 3
  • ·      Glue gathered lace around the rim of the lid and add a piece of pretty gingham ribbon to cover the gathers.
  • ·      Glue the 1” embroidered buttons around the lid as shown.
  • ·      Glue the 1.5” embroidered button to the center on top of the 1” buttons.
  • ·      Add 2mm Hot Fix Crystals over the embroidery for a little bling. Click Here to visit
